Get in Here!!! See How to use Microsoft Word’s new ‘Transcribe’ tool

0

Microsoft today announced a new feature for Word: a transcription tool that allows you to get spoken words into your document without you having to type all of them.

The new tool works with recorded audio and live speaking, and can detect different speakers. It’ll also allow you to pull quotes from the transcription and insert them as you please into the document.

At the moment, the Transcribe tool is only available on the online version of Word, and only to Microsoft 365 subscribers. There are plans to bring it to Word mobile at some point in the future. It also only supports English, but that’s also likely to change.

Here’s how to Use it:

First, you’ll have to go to the online version of Word, which you can access from the Office site. Then open up either a new document or the one you wish to add a transcription to. You’ll see a microphone option in the tool ribbon at the top of the screen, with the word “Dictate” under it. Click the arrow next to it, and the “Transcribe” option should appear in the drop-down menu.

Once you click “Transcribe,” you’ll be given the option to either upload audio to be transcribed, or to record audio live. The upload feature accepts .wav, .mp4, .mp3, and .m4a files. Keep in mind that if you use the upload feature, you can only upload five hours of recordings per month. There is no time limit on live audio.

Once you’ve got the audio, either recorded or uploaded, it’ll appear in a window to the side of the main document. It’ll be broken down in to different sections, with different speakers denoted accordingly. To add a quote from an individual section, click the + icon next to the section and the whole thing will be added to the document. To edit each section, click the pencil icon next to it. You can correct punctuation, or individual words the transcription may have missed.

If you wish to add the whole recording to your document, click the button at the bottom of the window. You can also start a new transcription, but keep in mind that it’ll erase the one you currently have. There’s a limit of only one transcription per document. You’ll be encouraged to open a new document for transcription if you’ve got more than one recording.

You can now get your recordings transcribed within Microsoft Word — provided you’re a 365 subscriber.

All the Best!

How to choose the perfect laptop for your college student

0

Most college students need laptops rather than desktops, and the reason is mobility. As our education system increasingly demands access to technology, the ability to move a computer around campus is a critical component for most students.

  • Laptop vs. Tablet: Is a tablet right for your student? Generally, laptops are better equipped to handle more intensive processing and use. Detachable keywords are available for a lot of tablets on the market, making them attractive options for some students.
  • Consider convertible laptops: Instead of a tablet, many laptops come with screens that rotate completely around, effectively turning them into a tablet. This offers the benefit of using the machine as a tablet, but also provides students with the option of using a more traditional laptop with a built-in keyboard.
  • Operating system: Basically, we have two primary choices – Windows and Mac. Both operating systems work well and are generally interoperable, but that’s not always the case. Pay special attention to class requirements to make sure you’re picking the right operating system for the curriculum (ie: some classes or universities might require Windows, etc).
  • Screen size: The size of the screen matters. Though laptops with larger screens are more expensive (and heavier with a larger form factor – around 15.6 inches), they might be worth the cost depending on how often the machine will be used. Pay special attention to how easy it will be to fit the laptop into a book bag or backpack. A 13.3-inch screen might be easier to throw into a backpack and carry.
  • Processing power: most laptops on the market today offer processing specifications that work for most students. The exceptions include heavy graphical work (photos and video) or design requirements (CAD).

How to Start Selling on Amazon….

0

Learning how to sell on Amazon is not a complicated process, and setting up your account on the e-commerce website is easy.

To sign up for an account, go to services.amazon.com. From there, click the button that says, “sign up.” Underneath that sign-up button is a fee of $39.99 per year. This plan costs $39.99 monthly subscription fee if you select the professional plan.

The personal plan only charges $0.99 per sale plus extra fees. Basically, if you choose to sell fewer than 40 items per month, it makes more sense to use the individual plan. Otherwise, you’re just wasting money. The plan sells some people who don’t need it; don’t be one of them.

After deciding which of the two seller account options is for you, click your chosen option on the next page. Fill out the required information, including some tax details Amazon requires from you. Amazon doesn’t require you to have your own business, so selling simply as an individual Amazon seller is completely fine.

Once that’s all filled out, you have your seller’s account and your first online store. The product listing is pretty simple.

You should be able to search up an item that you want to sell online from there unless there is no original item with your search parameters. In that case, you need to make your listing, and if you are only selling randomly, it might be smarter to sell on eBay. Niche sales work on there better. But it’s up to you!

As a seller on Amazon, the shipping, listing, updating, and everything else is up to you. You have to build your store and create your commerce individually. Amazon does not act as a middle-man except as the website you list your products on.

However, if you are more interested in selling products on a more wholesale basis. Amazon has made it easier for merchants to do just that. The item you are selling online will show up as “sold by Amazon.com,” which is more appealing to consumers than if it was just coming from any old business. Also, because of that confidence, you’re most likely to get more people to buy your products.
