0

Our ongoing series on “The New Rules of Rich has been exciting”. You sure must have picked up a lot of insights in the course of this series so far. Click here to view the previous episodes.

Here’s the Part (6): Enjoy!

Rule Number 16. The Most Important Commodity on Planet Earth is INTEGRITY!

One definition of integrity says that it is “the state of being whole, undivided” what a deep truth! The state, not a state! Not a one-off, but a continuous flow! Remember, united you stand divide you fall!. Integrity keeps a man whole – united in body soul and spirit. It is a lot easier to make a success in this state than in a divided state. Another definition of integrity states that it is “the quality of being honest…” you sure know that honesty is the best policy! Sadly, people with genuine integrity are now scarce to find, men and women even in high offices will break their word on a whim. But if you desire to make global impact and leave lasting results, then make integrity your number one watchword!

Rule Number 17. Delayed Gratification

You hardly hear those two words these days but those are two very precious words indeed! Delayed gratification simply invokes the art of sacrifice. It means that to make it to the very top – you should work when others are playing, study when others are sleeping, prepare when others are playing and pray when others are gossiping! Delay today’s enjoyment, so you can enjoy more tomorrow, this concept is really useful in the area of savings and investment, and is also applicable in many more areas that lead to success. So when you earn, keep, before you spend. Allocate money after you receive it, not before. Give every dime a purpose and stick with the plan!

Rule Number 18. No Man Becomes a Fool Until He Stops Asking Questions

Be super informed! Information breeds knowledge, knowledge is power, power is synonymous with wealth! Keep asking questions. Put you mind to work in the area of critical thinking. There is an answer out there – your job is to find it. I tend to think of the world as one huge garden of answers, our primarily role here is to find these answers and match them to problems – like solving a gigantic puzzle. Problem solving is one basic way of making and keeping wealth, finding answers lead primarily to problem solving.

The New Rules of Rich! (Part 5)

0

Today, we dive into the fifth part of our series on “The New Rules of Rich”. Click here to view the previous article.

Rule Number 13. Can’t find it? Then Make it!

I have heard many people say to me – I just can’t find a way to lasting success! To which I always respond to them – if you can’t find it, then make it! If you can’t find a way then make the way! Be the way! Stop looking for the way when you can be the way. Why spend precious time looking for a future when you can simply create one? And did I just hear you say how do I create one? Answer-just ask Elon Musk! The man who created Paypal, Tesla, Spacex etc. yes he can teach you a thing or two about creating your tomorrow!

Rule Number 14. The Early Mover Advantage

Sometimes you have to act like the eagle to make it in life. The Eagle’s eye sight is at least eight times stronger than the human eye sight! Their vision is so precise that they can spot a rabbit up to 3.2km away! Which simply means that the eagle can spot an opportunity very far away before it becomes crystal clear. Many have used this strategy to amass significant fortune. The ability to spot and position oneself in an evolving opportunity before it matures is known as taking the ‘first mover advantage.’ By the time such opportunities come to full maturity there are mostly worth many times more than when they were simply ideas or far flung possibilities. It is always a good habit to look for areas where you can take the first mover advantage like an emerging technology, or a new stock, or a new way of doing things.

Rule Number 15. Be Rich to Be Rich

Ever heard the saying that ‘a poor man is poor because he is poor’ well you just heard it – poverty is a system, a system of poor ideas, poor habits, poor attitudes, poor expectations etc. I like the way the Bible puts it – according to Proverbs 10:15 “the destruction of the poor is their poverty.” But notice that the reverse is also true – the making of the rich is their riches! No wonder then that the rich tend to get richer! They have rich ideas, rich attitudes, rich expectations, rich egos, rich motives etc. They say your life is what your thoughts make it, so determine to think rich, act rich, say rich, be rich to be rich!

The New Rules of Rich! (Part 4)

0

Our series on the New Rules of Rich continues with this part 4. Click here to view the previous episode.

Rule Number 10. Master the Fundamentals

Every champion, every winner, every great guy, every top gun is simply a master of the fundamentals! In all genuine subjects of life, there are basics which sum to the total of such a subject. The task for every superstar is to find these basics and master them by practice, yes continuous practice. The superstar footballer – David Beckham used to practice the basic soccer art of shooting by taking at least one hundred shots at goal before he learnt to bend the ball so well into the goal! In their book – ‘the Millionaire Next Door’ Stanley and Danko investigated the lives of Millionaires in America, tracking their shopping habits, living habits, saving and spending habits etc. One truth is common through their findings – all of these millionaires were just regular guys who learnt to master the fundamentals of making and keeping money!

Rule Number 11. Be Consistently Consistent

Victory in most areas of life lies in consistency. Habitually repeating a process that has returned positive results is better than winning the lottery! Be scientifically consistent in your quest for wealth and riches! Find your niche and stick there till you strike gold and when you do strike gold – repeat the process! For some its retail, for others its technology and yet for some others it is story-telling or even jest-making! Once you have discovered the area where you tend to make money the easiest, where you provide the best service with the greatest joy, where you excel   with much pleasure even if no one pays you for it, please deep dive into it and refer to rule number 10.

Rule Number 12. Do Not Play ‘Fool’

A fool and his money will soon part ways. That’s why you cannot afford to play ‘fool’. Frugality is still part of the game and will always be. Money likes to be treated royally and tends to stay more with friends that will treat it just the way it likes to be treated – as royalty. Because money answers to all things, it is not a commodity to be toyed with or treated shabbily ! The rich know this secret and never play fool with their money!

The Nigerian Fintech Revolution (Part 2)

0

Kuda Bank – A revolutionary, revolving the revolution!

Yesterday, we introduced you to this burgeoning revolution that has swept the Nigerian Banking space using cutting edge technology.

Kuda Bank has been able to achieve so much in so little time using other people’s money (OPM). In 2020, a year when the world was grappling with a pandemic, the startup out of Nigeria raised $10 million — the biggest seed round ever to be raised in Africa,  on the back of strong demand for its services.

Kuda was founded by Babs Ogundeyi and Musty Mustapha, two serious-minded Nigerians with a clear vision – use technology to bank the unbanked in Nigeria and diaspora! Their business model is however a clear departure from the conventional banking in Africa’s most populous country. The reason is logical and easily understood. As a continent, Africa is one of the most populous, yet underdeveloped financially, compared to other continents in the world. Banking has also been very centralized and sometimes used as a political tool. Riding on the backbone of some perceived form of decentralized banking, Kuda has appealed to the younger echelon of Nigerians who mostly want to achieve global status while acting locally, and the concept was indeed helped by the novel COVID-19 pandemic which brought to the fore the need for new ways of doing things.

Since having an account is free, how does Kuda make money? Kuda makes money through other services. Among them, users can top up their phones directly from the Kuda app. Kuda acts as a kind of broker in such transaction and makes a percentage from it. Users can also pay bills through the App.

Finally, like other banks, Kuda manages its float by investing it in money market transactions like treasury bills, mutual funds etc.

The Nigerian Fintech Revolution (Part 1)

0

In Nigeria things happen and happen fast! Africa’s largest population is filled with raw talent – a crop of people who can make things happen. People who can change their world. People who can rule their world.

It is no longer news that the COVID-19 Pandemic came with twin forces of disruption and acceleration. What is now news is that in Nigeria the financial technology space is now accelerated to global significance.

In this series, we spotlight the Fintech revolution in Africa’s largest economy, an area which has become too significant to ignore! We will deep dive into some specific players and unpack their rise to prominence as well as their mode of operations.

Kuda Bank – A revolutionary idea becoming reality!

This rising giant aptly calls itself the ‘bank of the free’ and rightly so too! Like the wind that blows where it wishes, Kuda bank has blown into the pockets of Nigerians with the single mission to offer free banking (Though there is no free lunch even in Freetown).

Knowing the hassles that Nigerians go through to open a conventional bank account, Kuda launched an online banking service by designing a banking app for your busy lifestyle, and they will give you a free debit card to go with it.  According to them -that’s all you need to make the right moves with your money, no sweat.

Whether you want to save it, spend it, send it. It’s up to you. Whatever you choose to do with your money, Kuda Bank will make sure it’s done better and free of charge. (Make sure to due diligence this one). Kuda is here to help you get the best out of your money, no strings attached.

With Millions of investment Dollars pouring in, this financial technology phenomenon has become a force to reckon with in Nigeria and hopes to replicate its lightening success across Africa.

You can open an account by downloading the app and filling in some key information, it all takes less than ten minutes which I confirmed myself by opening my KUDA Account!

The New Rules of Rich! (Part 3)

0

Just few weeks ago I started a series on “The New Rules of Rich”. Click here to catch up with the Part 1 and here for the Part 2 of this interesting series.

Rule Number 7. Redeem the Time(s)

This is so core that I like to term it my best rule. In one sense it simple means be up to date! In another sense it means renew your mind! You see the human mind can be likened to a gigantic house with several sometimes countless rooms, which we generally call life’s experiences. The trouble is once there is no one living in this house, it begins to deteriorate real fast! So our minds have to be occupied daily with tenants – yes positive tenants to keep the home fresh! Personally my best and all time recommended way to redeem the time is to read my Bible! And daily too! Even the Bible in (Romans 12:1-3) recommends that you do this if  you want to be wise? Read one chapter of the book of Proverbs every day! You will be amazed how much wisdom will accumulate in your mind (house) after some time! Actually this is not a rule but a command – redeem your time daily!

Rule Number 8. Buy-Something-Sell-Something

That is the surest way to make income. Buy-something-sell-something, or sell- something-buy-something. If you do this repeatedly it becomes a part of you (habit). If you do this effectively, you will become very good at it (Pro). If you do this efficiently it ultimately makes you (rich!). So what do you need to buy? Ideas, products, services, time, people (well not literally) etc. and what do need to sell? Same as what you need to buy, only with a margin.

Today I checked again the list of all the rich people in the world who have managed to stay rich overtime. Guess what I found? They all buy something and sell something!

Rule Number 9. The Power of Network

Ever heard the saying that you can “use your network to build your net worth.” This is so true and works every time. So the million dollar question is – who is in your network? Don’t kid yourself – you can only do so much! You need sharp brains to give you perspective! You need hard working minds to build your vision! You need more intelligent minds to teach you wisdom! And certainly you need successful mentors to guide you with their experience.
